BMT Kits Questions & Answers

Q: What is the purpose of this test?

A: To determine if there are high levels of viable (living), aerosolized (in the air) microbes (mold or bacteria) in the air of one's home environment that could cause respiratory tract disorders in the occupants.

Q: Does one need to have these organisms identified?

A: It is generally not important to identify these organisms when counts are within normal ranges. If counts are elevated, specific identification can be done by returning the kit to our facility. We feel that identification is not necessary in the clinical setting even with a contamination, since remediation should be done irrespective of cause and effect.

Q: What does the BMT kit contain?

A: The BMT Kit contains the following items that may be useful while doing a home survey to determine if a microbial contamination is present in the home.

Two sets of 4 plates labeled A-15, A-30, B-15, and B-30 along with instructions to test two (2) sites within the home.
A zip-lock plastic bag containing a dry cotton-tipped swab to collect dust from the air conditioning register or a suspicious surface. (Directions included.)
An empty zip-lock plastic bag in which to place a sample from the plenum of the air conditioning system. (An air conditioning professional best collects this sample).
Analysis Request form, if analysis or identification is desired.

Q: How do I buy a kit?

A: Kits may be purchased by calling 210-614-1700. The test kit will be sold for $75.00 plus sales tax (for Texas residents only) and shipping charges. Q: If I wish, how do I return the kit for analysis?
